For an extensive amount of time, Arizona was seen as the worst state in the country in terms of its COVID outbreak. However, things may be looking up for the state. The CDC reported that Arizona’s deaths per week had been above 500 for the month of July, but it has dropped below the 500 mark already in August. So, the CDC predicts that it will continue that course over the next four weeks, landing somewhere around 250 deaths per week in mid-September. The state actually went 30 days in between June and July without a single coronavirus death. However, that progress was reversed slightly in August, when the weekly death toll rose to a consistent one per week. Luckily, the CDC doesn’t see that number increasing over the next four weeks. In fact, they predict that it will either stay the same or fall back down to zero. Fortunately, Wyoming’s death rate has remained under five per week throughout the entire pandemic. However, the state reached a peak of about four deaths per week in mid-July, before falling back to around one to two weekly deaths at the start of August. That rate rose again recently—making its new death rate about three per week. Though, the CDC doesn’t predict that it will go back to its peak anytime soon. Instead, they suspect it will either stay at three deaths per week or decrease back down to one to two. And for more up-to-date information, sign up for our daily newsletter. Unfortunately, things aren’t going as well for Colorado. At the start of August, the Centennial State had a death rate of 50 per week, but it dropped to less than 25 per week in early August. Unfortunately, that progress may be short-lived. The CDC predicts that the state’s weekly death rate will rise again over the next four weeks, reaching about 35 to 40 deaths per week by mid-September.
